荷蘭以1比1逼和厄瓜多之後，2022世界盃足球賽僅進行到第6天，主辦國卡達已確定無法從A組小組賽出線晉級下一輪賽事，成為本屆第一支遭到淘汰的隊伍。

卡達開幕戰對厄瓜多0比2吞敗，成為首支在開幕戰吞敗的東道主，今天稍早則以1比3不敵塞內加爾，在A組苦吞2連敗，積分仍然是0分；而荷蘭與厄瓜多戰績同為1勝1負，積分4分，這代表卡達即使在台灣時間29日晚間11時最後一場小組賽對荷蘭贏球，也無法取得分組前2名。

世足賽32隊分成8組，每組進行小組循環賽，取分組前2晉級16強。
卡達只踢完2場小組賽即確定無緣下一輪，這是世足賽舉辦92年以來，主辦國最早出局的一次。

之前南非在2010年舉辦世足賽時，也是小組賽階段止步，不過南非當時取得1勝1和1負戰績，踢完3場後才確定被排除在16強外，表現優於今年的卡達。
卡達12年前贏得世足賽主辦權，今年是以地主身分首次與會，之前從未經由會外賽取得參加資格。在2019年拿下亞洲冠軍的卡達，陣中球員全數效力於國內球隊。
